Arne Slot: farewell letter from Liverpool

Arne Slot, the former Liverpool manager, published an open letter following his dismissal, in which he expressed his gratitude to the club's fans. Slot, who managed Liverpool for one season, said he leaves the club "exactly where it belongs: among the best in Europe." The 47-year-old Dutch coach won the Premier League in his first season in charge but was sacked after a campaign in which the team finished fifth, 25 points behind champions Arsenal. In the letter, published in the Liverpool Echo, Slot said that the fans made him feel welcome from the beginning and helped him on his way: "That is something I value very much." Despite having suffered 20 defeats in all competitions, Slot ensured Liverpool's qualification for the next Champions League. "Securing Champions League football was an important responsibility and one that ensures Liverpool can continue to compete at the highest level next season and beyond," he added. Slot replaced Jürgen Klopp as Liverpool manager in 2024, after the German stepped down after nine years at the helm of the club. The Dutchman had a dream start in his position, winning the club's twentieth league title at Anfield and with four games to spare. "That title belongs to all of us and will be an important chapter in the club's history. That's why we should feel proud. This club will always be judged by the highest honors. That's how it should be," Slot concluded in his letter.
