Emotional Ochoa: "Without Mexico I see no reason to continue playing"

Ochoa will be appearing at a World Cup for the sixth time, but has already announced his international retirement. Now it seems that the AEL Limassol goalkeeper will take an even more drastic step, as it could end his career. In Letters That Unite, a FIFA format, Ochoa read a letter from his daughter. Before he uttered the first word his voice broke. "The fact that I have come this far, I owe mainly to my family, for all the support they have given me," said Ochoa. "I have been playing since I was ten years old. There has been little time to do things that children do. It has been an endless cycle of 22 or 23 years. The Mexican team has always been my compass in my career and in my life. It has given me direction." Ochoa hints that his career is about to end. "I can't see my career unrelated to the national team. I don't know what my career would have been like without Mexico. And now that my time in the national team is over, I don't see much sense in football. I don't see the usefulness of continuing to play. I have enjoyed every moment and I have always given everything. I leave with my head held high and proud that I have been everywhere." Ochoa has so far made 153 appearances with the Mexican national team. In this World Cup he is the second goalkeeper.
